The main species of wasps in the UK are the Common wasp (Vespula Vulgaris) and the German Wasp (Vespula Germanica)
Wasps are a particular hazard when nests are in a close proximity or within buildings. A wasp sting can be very painful and in rare cases a single sting can cause anaphylactic shock, which, without fast medical attention can result in death within a short time.
Nests are formed in soil banks, roof spaces, wall cavities and trees. Nests are built using chewed wood (paper) and may become very large, housing 3,000 – 5,000 by late summer.
